Description:
The Department of Earth Sciences in Dedman College at Southern Methodist University invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral fellow to work on projects related to remote sensing of inland water beginning April 2023. In addition to the general topic of remote sensing of inland water, this postdoctoral fellow will specifically work collaboratively with a larger group (scientists and water resources stakeholders) on developing predictive water quality models and using data from both in situ sensor networks and from satellite remote sensing. This postdoctoral fellow will also interact with graduate and undergraduate students in the research lab to build up mentoring experience, and there is flexibility for this postdoctoral fellow to design projects or propose new research ideas.

Qualifications:
Educational Requirements: Ph.D. in Earth Science, Hydrology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field required before the start date.

Required qualifications:
  • Command of the R or Python programming languages and version control.
  • Experience working with large geospatial datasets from multiple sources.
  • Experience with predictive modeling and other statistical approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to publish in high-tier journals.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion efforts in the lab and the community.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience applying remote sensing on studying inland water quality.
  • Experience communicating with stakeholders.
  • Experience with using Google Earth Engine or High Performance Computing for remote sensing studies.
