Job Summary:

As an integral member of the study team, the Clinical Sciences Professional will contribute to multiple studies about perinatal health systems with an emphasis on workforce development and care models. Clinical Science Professionals perform health services research-related functions, including implementation, epidemiologic, and behavioral studies, and/or outcomes research. Clinical Science Professionals may also assist with clinical research-related functions, which may include patient-oriented research. Patient-oriented research may include mechanisms of human disease, therapeutic interventions, clinical trials, or the development of new technologies.

This Clinical Sciences Professional works on a variety of research projects, is on campus some days in accordance with requirements of study activities and university policies, and works with research participants in the clinical/hospital settings and remotely. There may be periodic travel to study sites and/or research conferences.

Examples of Duties Performed (Both Levels):
  • Assist with and oversee the day-to-day operations of health services and implementation studies.
  • Perform the informed consent process or ensure that the informed consent process has occurred, is properly documented, and that informed consent form documents are filed as required.
  • Interview prospective participants for a variety of research studies. Educate potential participants on the details of the studies through phone contacts and personal interviews.
  • Schedule participant participation in research studies, coordinating availability of necessary space, and clinical research support as needed (e.g., physician, nurse practitioner, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy).
  • Collect, manage, and analyze data obtained from research in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Conduct qualitative analysis using ATLAS.ti or similar software.
  • Adhere to research regulatory standards.
  • Maintain detailed records of studies to ensure compliance with requirements of institutional review boards, study protocols, department, hospital/clinical standard operating procedures, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in participant recruitment efforts, including communicating with patients and health care providers expressing an interest, and all pre-screening/screening activities.
  • Ensure that the necessary supplies and equipment for studies are in stock and in working order.


Intermediate Level Duties:
  • Independently master study materials, including but not limited to protocols, informed consent forms, and all other essential study documents for assigned studies.
  • Independently perform study-related processes, procedures, and assessments as defined in the study.
    • protocol and in compliance with regulating bodies.
  • Participate in grant submissions, including managing files and coordinating timelines.
  • Assist Team Leads, Supervisors, and/or management with the creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Act as a Primary Coordinator on multiple trials/studies.
  • Assist and train junior team members.
  • Conduct site visits and direct observation of clinical settings.
  • Coordinate community-based participatory research activities.


Senior Level Duties:
  • Assist with developing or developing protocol-specific systems and documents, including process flows, training manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Case Report Forms (CRFs).
  • Assist with identifying issues related to operational efficiency and share results with leadership
  • Collect information to determine feasibility, recruitment, and retention strategies; employing, evaluating, and assisting with the implementation of innovative solutions to maximize recruitment and retention
  • Serve as a resource and participate in study initiation and close-out duties
  • Disseminate research findings in collaboration with PIs, including manuscript preparation, poster, and podium presentations.


Additional Examples of Work Performed:
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of research and correspondence activities for assigned projects.
  • Manage relevant software and database applications, including EPIC, REDCap, OnCore, etc., for assigned research projects. Develop REDCap data collection tools.
  • Translate scientific study designs into actionable study protocols in collaboration with PIs.
  • Develop workflows for data collection and management that adhere to best practices and IRB-approved processes.



Work Location:

Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of three (3) days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

Intermediate Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • One (1) year of clinical research experience or related experience.


Senior Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in any field.
    • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two (2) years of clinical research experience or related experience.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:
  • Intermediate Level: $54,302 to $63,534
  • Senior Level: $58,705 to $68,685


The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
