Specialist, Science Laboratory
Job Summary
The position supports the technical and operational functions in the science laboratory at the University Asia Campus (UAC) by overseeing laboratory infrastructure, managing specialized equipment, ensuring safety compliance, and supporting students, faculty, and staff users. The role bridges hands-on equipment and facilities management with documentation, coordination, and team collaboration. The position involves preparing and assisting with laboratory experiments for science courses. This position is required to report to the Senior Specialist, Campus Operations, and/or Executive Director of Campus Operations and Government Affairs, a division in the Chief Administrative Officer.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Prepare laboratory sessions and set up equipment for required science courses
- Manage and monitor inventory of laboratory chemicals, consumables, and supplies
- Oversee laboratory safety and ensure compliance with safety regulations and guidelines
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and inspection schedules, as well as manage to maintain inventory of supplies, reagents, and equipment
- Support laboratory classes in collaboration with faculty members and teaching assistants
- Perform laboratory-related administrative tasks and prepare reports, including documentation in English
- Establishment of laboratory safety management regulations and policy
- Coordinate and prioritize daily activities in the lab, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to project timelines.
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for lab processes to ensure consistency, accuracy, and safety.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory guidelines, health and safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Responsible for campus safety and security management of EHSS (Environment, Health, Safety, and Security).
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of campus operations and the Assistant Senior Specialist
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Life Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
- Certified as a Laboratory Safety Manager or possession of a relevant certification, or willingness to obtain such certification within one year of employment
- Proficiency in operating and managing laboratory instruments and equipment
- Proficiency in both Korean and English (speaking, reading, and writing)
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office applications
- Strong sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and a diligent work ethic
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with faculty and students
Preferences
- Master's degree or higher in a related field
- One to three years of experience working in a university or research institution science laboratory
- Experience collaborating with international faculty members and students
- Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations, including hazardous materials management, waste disposal, and laboratory safety compliance
